Class Summary for April 9, 2024 - Chapter-3 Slokas 20 - 24
Summarized by Yamini K:
Slokas 20-22:
Krishna is the lord of 3 worlds and does not need to do any duties. But he is still doing them to show others looking up to him as example. Because just like everyone followed what King Janaka did, O Arjuna, you have to perform your duties so others can follow your example
23-24:
If Krishna did not do his duties properly or completely stoped, the world is going fall apart...to say, he is comparing himself to the bramhan within us. He is trying to appeal to Arjuna, why he should perform his action.
The karma laws also apply to God when he takes an avatar.
When Rama kills Valli, and Valli asks him why he killed him by sneaking up to him, he says in the next life he is the one who is going to kill him. That is how Krishna gets killed by an archer.
krishna is saying if I don't do my duties, world will destroy dud to adharma
Right actions are contagious. That is why it is important that Janaka , me and you have to do the right thing so the world follows.
A bhogi is someone who is doing everything to enjoy where as a yogi is doing for self purification.
A Sanyasi dedicates his actions to god.
A story in kenopanishad: Brahma takes the form of yaksha to test the devas.
He sits in front of Indra and everyone is taking his blessings and the gods get furious.
Agni asks yaksha, who he is while introducing himself in a boastful manner. He throws a blade of grass and asks him to burn it. He burns everything around the grass, but he is not able to burn the blade of grass. Same with Vayu. Indra sees all this and realizes that he is not just any Yaksha and asks to reveal himself.
As long as you remember there is a force higher than you, your outlook is going to change
Gurudev’s video: Children of a father who is watching TV or listening to music all the time will try to follow the same and the children of parents where both parents are teachers or scholars, follow the same and indulge in learning most of the time.
Just like the kids follow what the parents do, the higher you are in the social ladder, your responsibility for good behavior increases.
Discussions in class:
Do involuntary actions like your heart beating also accumulate karma?
We do not think much when doing a simple act like moving a hand.
But those who cannot move eg, if they are paralyzed and lost their hands , they cannot do due to karma phala.
Auto performing actions, like heart beating or hand moving, are not thankful for being able to do those actions , or are you taking it for granted.
If you not thankfull that will accumulate vasanas.
Do you accumulate vasanas if you are in comatose state?
Those who are in comatose state, are intellectually not capable of making decisions will not be accumulating karma
Animals do not accumulate vasanas because they do not have free will or intellect.
If vairgya is the result of karma yoga. doesn't that defeat the purpose of karma yoga?
If you attach yourself to the result of attaining vyragya, then you are never going to attain it
if your goal is attaining vyragya vs wanting it is what makes the difference
We need to continue our actions in yagna spirit
