Class Summary for Dec 03, 2024 - Chapter-4 Slokas 31-36
Thanks to Anuji
We started with our invocation prayers, followed by Pranayama and meditation.
Then we recapped what we did last couple classes. We summarized about the 12 types of Yagnas and
continued on. The reason we want to perform all the actions as yagna since we want to have a thankful
way. Then we learn to be not attached to the results and also get to prasada budhi.
Sadhana is nothing but some sort of inculcate these yagna. The prana is always misunderstood as
breathing. Pranayama means breath controlling.
Savasa- breathe inwards. Uchvasa- exhale.
Main pranas- Pana (taking in) Apana (Letting out), Vyana (surrounding), Samana (digestion), udhana
(ability to think higher).
Prana when leaves- all the physiological activities are stopped.
A Grihasta is required to perform 5 yagnas which help us to do the obligations or Runas to
them. They are
Daiya Yagna/Brahma yagna- Worshiping for deities.
Swaadhaya Yagna- Self-study of scriptures.
Pitru Yagna- anything done for ancestors.
Bhoota Yagna- for the welfare of the living beings around us.
Nrru Yagna- uninvited guests.
We chanted the shlokas 31-32-33 and 34-35-36.
The importance of knowledge – Gyana yagna.
Yagna is done basically for letting go of lower to higher, sacrificing attitude.
We might do it as mundane activity of doing a yagna, putting ghee as offering in Yagna fire is a symbolic
way of letting go of things even though it is in smaller qty.
Krishna says to Arjuna “Continuously perform this approach of doing yagna you are sure to attain
moksha”.
In order to connect the dots we approach a guru. Guru is the guide to help us understand the knowledge
Seva will help the students with surrender and clean our minds.
Teacher/Guru- gives the knowledge of jeeva jagat and Ishwara.
Only this knowledge, which is real knowledge will give permanent happiness. When we get this
knowledge we understand the Brahman and we are one and the same. Anyone can acquire this
knowledge and anyone can be liberated who pursues this knowledge. The real knowledge comes only
when we are not attached to the desires/karma of the actions.
Until Next class. Hari om!
