Class Summary for Sep 9, 2025

 Summarized by Anuradha Bhaskara

Mani ji and Sai ji started the class with introducing the study group, how it is conducted and if past members from post summer did the assignments.

We also got to know a few of the new members who joined the study group.

We did our opening prayers, pranayama and meditation for some time, followed by what we had covered so far in Chapter 6th till verse 16th.

We discussed the importance of 3 yoga’s.

Karma Yoga- > has two parts -> karma yoga and karma sannyasa yoga-> this focuses on giving up attachment to worldly things, results of an action performed. This purifies the action.

Bhakti Yoga-> This focuses on seeing god or bhagavan in all beings and also focuses on practicing the rituals while importance is on the higher Brahman. This purifies the Body.

Gyana Yoga -> this is the path of knowledge. This purifies the Mind/Thoughts. This is done via Shravanam, Mananam, and Nidityasanam.

These teach us the Nishkama karma-> doing a seva without any expectations.

We went over a nice explanation by Sucheta ji on BMI chart

Vasanas- which are driven from past births drive our Body-Mind-Intellect. These Vasanas intern are influence the way PFT i.e. Perceive- Feel- Think which is connected to OET.

BMI -> Body-Mind-Intellect.

PFT -> Perceive/Feel/Think

OET -> Object/Emotions/Thoughts

Perceive- is driven by the objects

Feeling- driven by our Emotions

Thinking is driven by our Thoughts.

When we rise above our BMI we rise above our thoughts which are driven by Vasanas to reach the ultimate Parramatta or the symbol OM.

Ego is a bundle of Past thoughts which is 80% of where we spend, Present where we are usually spending 2-5% of our thoughts, Future where we spend 15-18% of it.

Overexcitement of anything will lose focus.

We continued the transliterations of chapter 6 shlokas 16, 17, 18 where we left off post summer break in June.

From our Chapter 6 Bhagavad Gita below is transliterations.

16:- Yoga is not possible for that person who eats too much or sleeps too much. Or even for that person who eats very less and is always awake.

17:- Yoga becomes the destroyer of the pain for that person who has moderation in eating, sleeping, wakefulness, exertion of the actions and recreation.

18:- When the perfectly controlled mind rests in the self only, i.e. free from longing for all objects or desires; then it is said such a person is a Yuktha.

Theme: - Sleeping

Tamasic- Over sleeping people are Tamasic in nature and this could be due to laziness.

Rajasic –person is one who cannot sleep- as this involves a lot of anxiousness.

Satwick- Moderation in sleep would be achieved by a Satwick person.

 We chanted Shlokas 19, 20, 21 and went over Transliterations of the same.

Below is the same from our book.

19:- As a lamp placed in a windless place does not flicker; this is a simile used to describe the yogi of controlled mind, i.e. practicing yoga in the self.

20:- When the mind, restrained by the practice of yoga, attains Quietude and wherein seeing the self by the self, he is satisfied in his own self.

21:- when the yogi feels that infinite bliss, which can be grasped by the pure intellect and which transcend the senses, wherein established he never moves from reality.

How the state of the mind is to unite with Brahman and we need to practice and with practice helps cleanse the mind.

Chapter 6 of bhagavad gita focuses on the true Vedanta meditation.

Experiencing the Brahman is the true nidityasanam.

We went on to chant Shlokas 22,23,24,25 and went over transliterations as well.

Theme shall be discussed in the next class.

We concluded by reflecting on what we learnt.
