Class summary for Jan 6, 2026 - BG Chapter 7 - shlokas 10.- 13 and 14-17

 Summarized by Rajesh:

Recap of the previous class

  • Review of the Attachment versus Love table
  • The Lord described himself as the Eternal Seed within everything
  • Review of the Attachment versus Love table
  • The Lord described himself as the Eternal Seed within everything

We watched 5 Videos:

Ch 7, Verse 10, #158 - Is Inteligence and Intellect the same?

Seed that causes the tree, you cannot imagine what the seed is going to become.

The Lord is the Intelligence in all the Intellect, but He is not the Intellect.

I am the Splendor in the Splendid.

I am the Beauty in the Beautiful.

Is water in the ocean or is the ocean in the water?  Brahman is beyond all dualities

Ch 7, Verse 11, #159 - Strength in the Strong

I am the Strength in the Strong, without personal desire or personal attachments.

Ch 7, Verse 11, #160 - The Ulcer

Our selfish desires and selfish attachment, pollutes us.

The example given was of a younger brother whose ulcered mouth was poisoning him.

Ch 7, Verse 12, #161 - What do you see?  Picture or the screen

Your thoughts through the 3 different gunas.

While you are at the movies, if you recognize only the screen then you don’t recognize the movie.  If you recognize the characters in the movie, then your emotions will go up and down with the characters’ emotions.

Ch 7, Verse 13, #162 - Enquire the Essence

Unless you identify the essence of things, you will not recognize the Lord.

The example given was of an American tourist who was asking what the idol was made of.  Gurudev only saw Narayana there.

Subjective Analysis:  Start by traversing from Tamas -> Rajas -> Satva

Chapter 7:  Verses 14, 15, 16

Verily, this divine illusion of Mine, made up of Gunas (caused by the qualities) is difficult to cross over; those who take refuge in Me alone, come to cross over this illusion  /14/

The evil-doers, the deluded, the lowest of men do not seek Me; they whose discrimination has been destroyed by their own delusions follow the ways of the demons  /15/

Four kinds of virtuous men worship Me, O Arjuna, the dissatisfied, the seeker of (systematized) knowledge, the seeker of wealth and the wise, O Best among the Bharatas  /16/

Chapter 7:  Verses 14, 15, 16

Theme:

  1. Krishna indicates that it is difficult to traverse through the 3 states of this MAYA
  2. This MAYA is nothing but a PROJECTION created by us

    • Story of Narada & Krishna.  Narada asks what is this about Maya?  Krishna smiles and asks for some water.  Narada becomes entranced by a beautiful woman at the door he knocks on.  Krishna then comes and says to Narada, that is Maya.
    • Another story in Ramayana.   Bharata comes with the army to bring Rama back to Ayodhya.  Lakshman projects that Bharata is coming to harm Rama.
  1. Shifting the focus from the WORLD to the CREATOR will help
  2. Here Krishna addresses the bad elements as "Evil Doers" and not EVIL
  3. We Do Evil, when our desires are not fulfilled. The society is promoting DESIRES
  4. Desires are due to an imaginary emptiness, which will go away when we realize our FULLness
  5. We need to be EVER in BRAHMAN's knowledge. E.g. Prahalada
