Class summary for May 5, 2026 - BG Chapter 8 Slokas 7-10 Videos, and Slokas 11 - 13

Summarized by Rajesh:

Recap of previous class:
We covered verses 7, 8 & 9

Video #195, 8-9-4, 8 Directions (part 3) - Subtlest
Anoraniyanam - subtler than the subtlest, smaller than smallest.
Subtlety is a measure of pervasiveness.
Ex:  Cube of ice -> Water -> Steam  - solid is the grossest, steam is the subtlest
Space is the subtlest thing that we know.  Subtler than space is Narayana.
It allows everything to remain in it.

Video #196, 8-9-5, 8 Directions (part 4) - Supporter
Anusmaredyah -Continuously to contemplate upon Him
Sarvasya Dhatharam - He supports everything
Ex: of population increasing such that poor God cannot support it any longer.
It’s not that type of support - it’s like shirts supported in cotton, ornaments supported in gold, waves supported in the ocean and pots supported in clay.
The very material cause of our gross form and subtle thoughts is God.

Video #197, 8-9-5, 8 Directions (part 5) - Inconceivable, Effulgent like Sun & Other than Darkness/Ignorance
Acintyarupam - whose form that we can’t think/imagine.  It is not an object of the intellect, it is the vitality that expresses as the intelligence in the intellect.
Adityavaranam - sun’s color, the color of light.
He is pure knowledge.
Tamasah Parastat - He’s beyond all darkness.
It is a unique light.
Consciousness can illumine both the light and the darkness.

Video #198, 8-10, Concentrating Prana
At the time of death, with your mind unwavering, great devotion and mind & intellect combined through yoga, that person can reach that supreme reality.
Prana is the expression of life & vitality in the BMI equipment.

Video #199, 8-10, Meditation - Verb or Noun?
Words can’t describe that state.  Holding that mind in that state is called meditation (noun, state of mind) or contemplation (verb, effort to meditate).

Verses 11, 12 & 13
Scholars of the Vedas describe Him as Imperishable; great ascetics practice the vow of celibacy and renounce worldly pleasures to enter into Him.  I shall now explain to you briefly the path to that goal.  /11/

Restraining all the gates of the body and fixing the mind in the heart region, and then drawing the life-breath to the head, one should get established in steadfast yogic concentration.                                      /12/

One who departs from the body while remembering Me, the Supreme Personality, and chanting the syllable Om, will attain the supreme goal.                                                                           /13/
